Egyptian Mythology – Anubis: The God of Afterlife and Embalming

This male-bodied god and jackal-headed god should not be unfamiliar to many individuals, when typically on hieroglyphs engraved on tombs and temples. God Anubis represents mummification and dying. Wild canines typically appeared in graveyards, so the traditional Egyptians believed that Anubis taken care of the lifeless. This jackal-headed god helped mummify Osiris after being killed by Seth. Monks typically put on Anubis masks throughout mummification ceremonies.

Vị thần có thân nam giới và đầu chó rừng này hẳn không xa lạ với nhiều người, khi thường có trên các văn bản chữ tượng hình được khắc trên các lăng mộ, đền đài. Thần Anubis tượng trưng cho sự ướp xác và cái chết. Chó rừng hay xuất hiện ở các nghĩa địa, do đó người Ai Cập cổ tin rằng thần Anubis trông nom người chết. Vị thần đầu chó rừng này đã giúp ướp xác thần Osiris sau khi bị thần Seth giết chết. Các thầy tư tế thường đeo mặt nạ Anubis trong các lễ ướp xác.
